Y’all, 58 acres and four bedrooms built in in 1812! The wallpaper and woodwork alone is dreamy— sure, it’s going to need some loving and attention, but with 58 acres you could even build something new! 40 mins from #springfieldma and 2 hours from Boston.
The outside of this one built in the 1800s is cute but I really love the inside—- the fireplaces! The pine flooring! The attic and the basement! All the recessed shelving! Hey find your farmhouse friends, where are my off grid folks looking for something out west? This house is off grid cabin in Colorado on the bank of the Indian River —- it’s got solar and propane as well as a wood stove and a greenhouse. It needs some finishing and the upstairs could be split into two bedrooms rather than one big one— but I think it’s got a ton of potential!
Ah! It’s been A WHILE since I’ve found a house and property under 150k… (lots of tiny homes and cabins for sure) —but here we go! This one is in a county that boasts growing the best watermelons in the south and this property has some gorgeous old oak trees. It has 5 bedrooms and was built in 1939. Plus its address is on Welcome Street

Well y’all, this one is going to need a bit of restoration but when it’s done (and even now!) how DREAMY will it be?!?! According to the realtor this 4br/1.5 bath has a motivated seller and will be taken off the market to be winterized by October 31st so if you’re serious, don’t sleep on it. According to the realtor this 4br/1.5 bath has a motivated seller and will be taken off the market to be winterized by October 31st so if you’re serious, don’t sleep on it. It was built in 1810 and has wide pine floorboards, original beams, plaster and really fun vintage wallpaper. It’s 2.2 hours from NYC and less than an hour from Hartford. If one of y'all buy it I want to come see it when you’ve fixed her up! What would you keep if she was yours?
Ok so this one is for my folks who dream of hiding out or bugging out and are handy. Let’s be clear, It’s NOT for the faint of heart—this one is ONLY accessible by water, is on an island on the inside passage in Alaska, and has been set up for off-grid living. It’s over our usual price range, but the view totally wooed me and IT IS RURAL

It’s over our usual price range, but the view totally wooed me and IT IS RURAL. 😜Also, it’s a work in progress, so if you’re a DIY-er this could be yours. I love the windows and that it’s got two fridges for less frequent trips to town. It’s 2br & 1&half baths according to the listing.
I feel like with a really good pressure wash an updated flooring situation this barnhouse could be magical. 4br/2baths, a shop, a generator for bad weather, and it’s in one of the top rated school districts in the state, and just a hop, skip, and a jump down to New Orleans or the gulf coast beaches—- what’s not to like?

I wish I could go exploring here! Have yall been to WV? Do you live there now? What do you love about it or want us all to know?

Anyway, this house is 4br/2bath in a town of 900 people on 5 acres with an INCREDIBLE looking original barn. (If you’ve been with us at all you KNOW how I love an original barn!) it’s 2.5 hours from Kansas City and 1.5 hours from Des Moines. Sure, you could update it but if you’re looking for small town life with land AND proximity to larger metropolises. here you goooooooooo!

Well, for 4br/1bath and 8 VERY pretty acres, this is a great price. I love all the original woodwork and the outbuildings and the beautiful property view.
So, I’ve always wanted to visit North Dakota—anybody out there from there originally or living there now and want to tell us what makes it special or great?
Look at this cute little cottage! Sitting on 7 acres and looking snazzy with (maybe new?) floors and paint, plus a big ole pole barn, it’s ready for you to move in and start your #farmlife. Just over an hour to Montgomery, and 20Mins to Troy…plus just over two hours to the beach—- it’s in a good spot.

BUT, years and years of subscribing to home renovation magazines have led me to believe that there are LOTS of big city architects-slash-interior-designers and their spouses who run antiques importing businesses who FREAK OUT about projects like this… (and if that’s you, then know I’m not hating — I’m JEALOUS— bc that life sound pretty great). What did magazines lead YOU to believe?
Anyway, I’m sharing it bc it would be amazing to see it brought back to life… plus it has LOTs of outbuildings and some gorgeous surrounding land.
Y’all know those movies when a family is living way out in a farmhouse and maybe there’s something hiding out in the cornfield? Or when the main characters have to drive way out to find a reclusive guide to help them vanquish the aliens or whatever? This looks like that house. AND the checkerboard kitchen floor??? Swoon.
Where are my folks who want true peace and quiet? It’s an hour from Cincinnati and 1.( hours from Louis ill. KY. The owner says this 3br/1.5 bath is priced to sell!

It’s for 1br/1bath plus a sleeping loft. There’s more adjoining land available for sale, and the cabin has solar electricity and a backup

This one y’all. It’s steps away from a gorgeous river, an hour and a half from the super cool small city of Portland, ME, AND is a small working organic farm in a town with a population of 700 (which is SMALL but also heavenly and amazing if you are willing to do the relationship-building work and love the quiet life). If y’all can’t tell, I was SMITTEN with Maine after our summer family trip and keep coming back to houses that I wish could be mine. It's got a late 70s open floor plan. — what would yall do with it? Would you consider Maine (or if you live there, what should we know about it? Am I right to daydream?)

Last fall we took a family trip to Shenandoah National Park and had an AMAZING time hiking in the mountains with all of the beautiful fall colors and crisp temps. This part of the world is one of my faves ANY season of the year. This 4br/3bath house built in 1890 is RIGHT UP IN that neck of the woods and is being sold in an online auction that started last week and goes until Oct 9th. It may need some lovin’ and attention and a few fix-ups, but GOSH. The banister, the floors, the views. Plus, it is just 2.5 hours (basically, a hop, skip, and jump) from DC, an hour from Charlottesville, and 20 minutes from Harrisonburg.
My FYF folks looking for an #offgridescape, here you go—you’d be right near the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park—I don’t love how edited this photo looks, but maybe it’s just the desert light? What do y'all think? Gorgeous or overboard?
Ok so you’ve got a month to plan and get the down payment, but this farm with a 5bR/2bath brick farmhouse in the middle of PA is going up for auction on 10/18! It’s got a RED BARN and silos and looks like a storybook farm about 3 hours from Philadelphia and 4 from Pittsburgh. I’m not a real estate agent but you can read more about the auction at the actual listing
100 year old 4br/2bath gem in a precious little village with a community college and a downtown area with businesses actively revitalizing it! Ellisville is a neighbor to Laurel of HGTV Hometown fame, for all you FYF reality TV show fans. It's 2 hours from New Orleans and even less to the beach. Come be my sorta kinda neighbor!
OMG a tiny (off grid-ish) house just over an hour from Nashville! Here’s your recording studio in the woods or your retreat to peace and quiet. 2 sleeping lofts plus a Murphy bed, a tricked out storage shed/studio, and a creek. Plus PLENTY of hammock hanging spots. Who’s getting this one??
Well FYF folks, y’all are either going to LOVE this one or HATE it. What I bet we’ll 👍🏻: 1)THE BEAMS. These are for-real hand hewn wood, not panels or cladding. 2) The location— it’s outside of Albany NY and is a 5-7 min drive between two cute villages, one in NY and one in VT. Check out this newly constructed (still being constructed?) farmhouse on 12 acres just outside of Quebec City, Canada. The listing is in French, so maybe brush up with Duolingo or something?😜 Fun fact: I’ve got an ENTIRE Pinterest board of ideas for using finished Plywood for the walls for a guest house out here at our farm — so while this interior look may not be for everybody, I’m into it. What would you use this farmhouse for? What parts do you like or love most?
This auction goes until September 26th and as of today the high bid is $225,000! If you’ve always wanted to own a classic big red barn and silo (so, something that looks like every single children’s book illustration of a farm ever) here’s your chance. It’s just under an hour from Madison and just over an hour to Milwaukee.

This could be my house’s cousin! Right on the LA/TX line within spittin’ distance of the Toledo Bend reservoir, this 2br+loft/1bath beauty was built in 2021 and has all the makings of a place to relax in nature. An hour and a half from Beaumont, TX and Alexandria Louisiana, this is rural living!

This is a unique spot since the farmhouse burned and would need someone special to totally fix it, but the realtor says it’s also got a barn that is useable for a camp while you do it. I would LOVE for one of y’all to buy this property, fix it, farm it, and then tell me everything! (Or better yet, invite me to come see!)
I had some folks asking about Nevada… so here you go! This 3br/1bath home was built in 1920 and has a fenced meadow all set up for cattle or horses and it’s my favorite old house shape! Deeth is certainly a rural ranch town, with a population of just over 400. The view really is gorgeous.

Y'all! My family visited Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine this summer and it was HEAVENLY. We hiked, we explored tide pools, and loved the quiet side of Mount Desert Island best of all. I’m guessing winters are pretty tough, but I’d chance it to live in this 3br/1bath salt box with cedar shake and the most beautiful kitchen built in 1790!
Every. Single. Time. I see a house this shape and the wide pyramid shaped roof, I fall I love— even if it needs a coat of paint and some updated flooring like this one. 2br/2baths and This town is an hour from Raleigh, so you can get the city AND nature while living in a town of only 10,000 people. Not bad y’all.
This rustic 1br/1bath cabin sits on the Eel River and includes a sweet little chapel. It has a drilled well and power, a good road and is surrounded by redwood trees. So basically a heavenly on-grid natural retreat! I wish there were interior pictures but it’s a brand new listing. Given that I DREAM of having a cabin in the woods on a river this one speaks to me.
Oh how I love northern Arkansas! Let me count the ways. The mountains, the rivers, the springs, the temperatures…my family loves roadtripping through the Delta to Mountain View and Hot Springs. I’ve got a dream to do some Buffalo River exploring.

This cute little 1br/1bath cabin with a sleeping loft would be a pretty fun spot to use as a #naturalstate escape or hideout. It’s got a barn and a workshop, plus it’s pretty piece of property that seems prime for hunters.
This 4br/2bath eastern North Carolina house is precious. About 30 mins to New Bern, NC, and Jacksonville, NC, Pollocksville is on the edge of the Croatan National Forest. Apparently it’s a paradise for fishermen, and bear or deer hunters
